Learning Center

 

The mission of the Ridgecroft School Learning Center is to assure that students with disabilities develop through the provision of an appropriate individualized education in the least restrictive environment.

Specifically, the center will:

  • Plan and coordinate instruction appropriately to meet individual needs of students
  • Follow rules and regulations of the Special Needs Policy according to the North Carolina State Guidelines for Exceptional Children, within the limitation of Ridgecroft Learning Center facilities, staffing, and available resources
  • Plan and organize a schedule for student resource services in grades K-12
  • Coordinate Resource Program services with regular educator to assure students are receiving accommodations for specified areas of need
  • Provide parents with suggestions on handling the special needs of students
  • Develop the Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  • Organize and schedule IEP meetings
  • Determine modifications for exceptional students in regular or resource classrooms
  • Coordinate and implement the Referral process
  • Complete classroom observations as needed
  • Facilitates testing as needed, in coordination with available testing resources
  • Interpret evaluation results for parents and regular educators
  • Hold follow-up conferences as recommended on the IEP
  • Update parent/guardian annually
  • Organize procedures for any end-of-course testing for exceptional students
  • Make application for and implement approved accommodations for various standardized testing, including but not limited to: PSAT/SAT/AP, ACT, and ITBS, based on student’s individual needs
  • Determine yearly goals for students and evaluate progress at the end of the school year
  • Plan accordingly for the next school year
