Ridgecroft School Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2026
On the evening of May 22, Ridgecroft School proudly celebrated the commencement of the Class of 2026. Ten graduates walked across the stage, marking the culmination of their years of hard work, growth, and shared memories.
The ceremony featured several meaningful contributions from students and faculty. Senior Cali Evans delivered the Invocation.
In her salutatorian address, Anna Futrell reflected on the journey of growing up together at Ridgecroft, reminding classmates that graduation is not just an ending, but also a beginning. She spoke about the lifelong friendships, shared memories, and everyday moments that shaped the Class of 2026, from pep rallies and lunch table conversations to challenges that taught resilience and perseverance. Anna expressed gratitude to teachers and families for their unwavering support and celebrated the bond of a class that “made it together,” leaving classmates with a heartfelt reminder that Ridgecroft was more than a school; it was where they grew up.
In her heartfelt valedictorian speech, Klaire Cherry reminded the Class of 2026 that their futures are still “unwritten.” Reflecting on the unique bond formed in a class of ten, she encouraged her classmates to embrace their own paths, use their voices boldly, and write lives defined not by expectations, but by purpose and authenticity. Her message celebrated the power of small-town roots, resilience, and the courage to begin even before feeling fully ready.
In her reflective valedictorian speech, Kaitlyn spoke on the journey that brought the Class of 2026 to graduation, reminding classmates that every student’s story was shaped by perseverance, growth, and determination. She encouraged her peers to view setbacks as opportunities to become stronger and emphasized that their success was built through hard work, resilience, and the support of teachers, friends, and family. With gratitude and optimism, Kaitlyn closed by reminding the class that graduation is not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities.
Senior Molly Brown introduced the evening’s Commencement speaker, Ridgecroft English and College and Career Readiness teacher Molli Rose, who was chosen by the senior class.
In her commencement address, Mrs. Rose reflected on the journey she and the Class of 2026 have shared, noting that this senior class was both her first group of freshmen at Ridgecroft and now her first graduating class at the school. She encouraged graduates to embrace the endless possibilities before them and challenged them to “make the world better because you are in it.”
Using a story of the bamboo tree as a powerful metaphor, Mrs. Rose reminded students that growth often happens quietly and unseen long before success becomes visible. “Not all growth is visible. Not all progress is immediate. And not every important thing happening in your life can be measured by what other people can see. Sometimes your roots are growing.”She also emphasized the importance of perseverance, faith, and community, reminding graduates that none of us reaches life’s milestones alone. “Behind every graduate is a community: parents, grandparents, teachers, friends, coaches, pastors, mentors, people who prayed for you, encouraged you, forgave you, and believed in you when you struggled to believe in yourself.”
Drawing on Scripture from Galatians and Isaiah, Mrs. Rose encouraged students to remain faithful during seasons of waiting and uncertainty, trusting that growth is still happening even when it cannot yet be seen.
In a meaningful gesture, Mrs. Rose placed a special gift beneath each graduate’s seat: a personal journal with handwritten notes for each student. The journals were intended to serve as keepsakes and reminders to reflect on the journey ahead, the lessons learned, and the ways God continues to guide their paths.
Following the presentation of diplomas, the service concluded with a benediction given by senior Anna Futrell.
The evening was marked not only by celebration but also by reflection on Ridgecroft's impact on each graduate’s journey. As families, faculty, and friends looked on with pride, the Class of 2026 turned the page to a new chapter with confidence and hope.

Ridgecroft Baccalaureate Service for the Class of 2026
On Thursday evening, May 21, Ridgecroft School held its 2026 Baccalaureate Service in honor of this year’s graduating class. The program was a meaningful time of reflection and celebration, highlighting the significance of both academic and moral formation.
The evening began with an Invocation by senior Landon Woodard, followed by a Scripture Reading and Prayer led by Kaitlyn Cordrey.
Klaire Cherry introduced the evening’s speaker, Reverend Jay Rivenbark, pastor of Open Door Church Bertie Campus. Before entering ministry nearly fourteen years ago, Pastor Jay served in law enforcement on the local, state, and federal levels, dedicating his career to protecting and serving others. In her introduction, Klaire shared that the senior class chose Pastor Jay because of his lifelong example of service, integrity, and leadership, as well as his ability to make others feel seen, valued, and never alone. She also reflected on how his humor, wisdom, and genuine care for people have made a lasting impact on both his congregation and the many lives he has touched through his ministry.
The program also included a presentation highlighting moments from the seniors’ time at Ridgecroft and from their time together. The service concluded with a Benediction given by senior Kendall Courtright.
We are proud of the Class of 2026 and grateful for the opportunity to recognize their accomplishments and encourage them as they prepare to begin their next chapter.

A big congratulations to the yearbook staff and advisor, Mrs. Mandy Hughes! On Friday, the team was presented with a plaque and the exciting news that the 2026 yearbook was inducted into Walsworth’s Gallery of Excellence, marking the second consecutive year our staff has earned this prestigious honor, awarded to only a small percentage of yearbooks published by the company each year.
This recognition is especially meaningful because the 2026 yearbook theme, Hours, captures what makes life here at Ridgecroft so special. We spend roughly 180 days and well over 1,260 hours together each school year, but it’s never just about the time itself. It’s about what fills those hours: the laughter in the hallways, the friendships, the support from teachers, the excitement before big games and events, the classroom moments when something finally “clicks,” and the memories that become part of our story.
Walsworth shared:
“The Gallery of Excellence yearbooks play a crucial role in the yearbook inspiration process for students and advisers nationwide. Walsworth highlights the Gallery of Excellence yearbooks at workshops and training events, as well as in printed classroom resources and online galleries. These elite yearbooks provide countless staff all over the country with inspiration and demonstrations of scholastic journalism at its finest.”
The Ridgecroft 2025-2026 yearbook will be proudly displayed at Walsworth headquarters throughout the next school year!
Congratulations again to Mrs. Hughes and the entire staff for continuing to set the standard, proving once again that “no matter how many Hours we spend here, we know how to make this time ours.” -

Ridgecroft School is grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Taylor for their generous donation of a beautiful piano, which now has a special home in the Media Center; a fitting place for such a meaningful gift.
The Media Center holds deep significance, as it was dedicated in 2018 as the Jerrie Jenkins Taylor Media Center in honor of Mrs. Jenkins and her remarkable 34 years of service to Ridgecroft. Throughout those years, Mrs. Taylor helped shape the lives of countless students, leaving a lasting impact on our school community through her dedication, care, and commitment to learning.
As Dr. Taylor, a retired local physician, and Mrs. Taylor begin this new chapter following their retirements and move, they chose to donate this piano to Ridgecroft. A thoughtful gift that will continue to bring joy, creativity, and inspiration to students for years to come.
We are honored by their generosity and touched by their continued investment in the Ridgecroft community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. and Mrs. Taylor and wish them all the very best in this next season of life.

Their strong professional relationship, grounded in a shared commitment to high-quality early education, has brought them together once again at Ridgecroft. Mr. Johnson’s continued support of excellence in early learning has been instrumental in shaping this next chapter.
Mrs. Johnson’s connection to Ridgecroft began through her consultative work with the preschool over the past three years. Through that experience, she developed a deep respect for the program and its dedicated staff. Congratulations to Señora Warren, Ridgecroft School’s April Teacher of the Month!
Señora Warren has been named Ridgecroft School’s April Teacher of the Month. Now in her fourth year at Ridgecroft, she brings nearly 20 years of teaching experience through homeschooling, church teaching, and traditional classrooms. She has taught every grade level as a homeschool educator and primarily high school in a traditional setting, while also enjoying working with younger students at Ridgecroft.
A Few Highlights About Señora Warren:
• Education: Bachelor’s in Christian Ministry; Master’s in Religion; Master of Arts in Theology & Apologetics; currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry (Faith & Culture)
• Hobbies: Reading, cooking, and singing
• Favorite Quote: A C.S. Lewis quote centered on the idea that the things we love point us toward a deeper purpose and longingThe books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things . . . are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself, they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshipers."
Favorite focus on teaching: She loves helping students see that human beings are a remarkable creation. When we learn both why we struggle and why we are made to overcome, it changes how we approach everything.
She shares that one of the things she values most is how “the students are eager to learn -- even when they don’t realize it themselves,” along with the kind staff and genuinely supportive leadership.
Señora Warren’s thoughtful approach to teaching and passion for helping students grow both academically and personally make her a valued part of the Ridgecroft community. The Teacher of the Month is sponsored by our Ridgecroft PTO. On March 30th, family, friends, teammates, and mentors gathered for a major milestone in the life of Ridgecroft student-athlete Kaitlyn Cordrey. She signed her National Letter of Intent to play soccer for Chowan University.
The signing ceremony was a testament to Cordrey’s hard work both on and off the field. Reflecting on her journey, Cordrey shared, “Sixth grade year was when everything changed. Having only one game due to the COVID shutdown, missing the sport was all it took for me to realize how much soccer means to me. Ever since then, I have worked consistently to improve not only for myself but for the team as well.”
Her commitment to Chowan University is also backed by significant academic accolades. She is receiving a merit scholarship from the university, as well as its prestigious Leadership Scholarship. The Leadership Scholarship was awarded to Cordrey following an application and interview process at the university and is awarded to a select group of students who demonstrate leadership, academic achievement, and a commitment to service.
The event was attended by Cordrey’s family, friends, mentors, and teammates, all of whom have played a role in her journey to the collegiate level. In support of her future program, both Chowan University Head Soccer Coach Fernando Zuniga and Assistant Coach Rich Dearle were in attendance to welcome her to the Hawks. Cordrey described her connection to the university, sharing that “from the moment I got there, I instantly knew I was home… everyone was welcoming me with open arms and treated me as if I was already part of the team.”
Cordrey also expressed deep gratitude for those who supported her along the way, sharing, “Thank you to my family for always being there, supporting me, believing in me from the very beginning... And to my coaches and mentors who helped guide me to this opportunity.”
“Kaitlyn has consistently demonstrated the character and drive required to succeed at the next level,” said Molli Rose, Ridgecroft English and College and Career Readiness teacher. “Seeing her hard work culminate in this opportunity at Chowan University is a proud moment for our entire community.”
Cordrey plans to study exercise science at Chowan to pursue her dream of earning a doctorate in physical therapy. In joining the Women’s Hawks Soccer program, she will be coached by a head coach who is currently the winningest coach in the program's Division II history. Cordrey looks to bring her leadership and drive to the pitch and the classroom, adding, “I am so incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to continue growing not only as a student but as an athlete as well… this is just the beginning.”

On Thursday, January 22nd, Ridgecroft School marked a meaningful moment of tradition and connection as the Class of 2039 (PreK4) formally presented the Class of 2026 with a 250th Anniversary Limited Edition Betsy Ross flag.
The special ceremony brought together members of the PreK program, the senior class, and the fifth grade, who serve as the school’s official “keepers of the flag.” Representing the Class of 2039, Andrew Floyd presented the flag to the senior class president, Klaire Cherry. The flag was then ceremonially raised by the fifth graders, symbolizing the passing of responsibility and the shared traditions that unite our students across grade levels.
The flag was generously donated by the Floyd family, both of whom are veterans. One of only 10,000 produced to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary, this commemorative Betsy Ross flag will fly on campus for the remainder of the academic year as a symbol of service, unity, and gratitude.
The presentation holds special significance as both the Class of 2039 and the Class of 2026 will graduate during the year of the United States Semiquincentennial, 2039, for their preschool graduation and 2026 for their high school graduation, forever linking these two classes through this historic milestone.
We are deeply grateful to the Floyd family for this meaningful gift and for moments like these that highlight the strong sense of continuity, tradition, and community that defines Ridgecroft School.

Ridgecroft School is excited to announce that the Board of Trustees has approved the development of a football program, with plans to begin at the junior varsity level and build toward a varsity program within two years.
Over the past year, Board-appointed individuals investigated the feasibility of football as a prospective sport at Ridgecroft. After they presented their findings and recommendations, the Board officially approved moving forward with this addition to the school’s athletic offerings.
Ridgecroft football games will be played on the current soccer field. The school remains committed to continuing its proud 50-year soccer tradition while also expanding opportunities for student-athletes. As Ridgecroft grows, so does student interest, and football aligns well with both those interests and the school’s conference participation.
“The addition of football represents Ridgecroft’s commitment to growth and to meeting the evolving interests of our students,” said Brandi Farmer, Board Chair. “We are excited to honor tradition while creating new opportunities that strengthen both school spirit and community engagement.”
In conjunction with the launch of football, the Board of Trustees and administration will begin working on a comprehensive master plan to support the school’s long-term academic, athletic, and facility needs.
Ridgecroft’s enrollment has steadily increased, and with that growth comes the responsibility to ensure the school remains well-positioned for the future. The master plan will serve as a roadmap for responsible development, striking a balance between tradition and innovation.
This step represents more than the addition of a sport; it reflects Ridgecroft’s dedication to serving students and engaging the wider community. If you are interested in learning more or in supporting the football program through contributions or involvement, please contact the Office of Advancement at Ridgecroft School: Kim Bailey at kbailey@ridgecroft.org or 252-332-2964.
The following questions and answers provide additional details about the program and the school’s broader vision for growth.
Questions & Answers
Is Ridgecroft discontinuing its soccer program?
No. Ridgecroft will continue to field soccer teams. Both soccer and football will share the field, with the athletic director carefully scheduling practices and games to ensure a balance.
How will this be paid for?
The football program will be funded through dedicated fundraising efforts, not from current allocated school funds.
Who will be eligible to play?
The program will begin with Junior Varsity 8-man football for grades 7-10, with a planned transition to varsity play within two years.
Why football, and why now?
As Ridgecroft continues to grow, so does the range of student interests. Football offers an additional opportunity for participation, school spirit, and community involvement, aligning with the athletics provided by many conference schools.
Where will games be played?

Ridgecroft School is excited to welcome our Fall 2025 interns! These seniors are gaining meaningful, real-world experience while supporting our faculty, staff, and students across campus. Their dedication not only strengthens daily school operations but also gives them valuable opportunities to explore future career paths.
Molly Brown is interning with Molli Rose, Upper School English Teacher and Assistant College Counselor. Molly has quickly become an invaluable part of the classroom, organizing novel folders, creating bellringer resources, preparing vocabulary binders, running copies, and even color-coding Chromebooks to streamline classroom technology. She also provides direct support to students, making a positive impact every day.
Kendall Courtright is interning in the Advancement Office with Barbara Outland and Kim Bailey, assisting with communications, fundraising initiatives, and special projects that keep Ridgecroft moving forward.
Cali Evans splits her time between Mrs. Winn’s 3rd-grade classroom and Mrs. Hawkins, Assistant Head of School. In Lower School, Cali works closely with students on assignments and reading practice experiences that perfectly align with her future career goals in speech therapy.
Landon Woodard and Corey Phipps are supporting Athletic Director Billy Jenkins. From field maintenance to game-day prep, these students are gaining hands-on experience in athletics management while ensuring Ridgecroft’s sports programs run smoothly.
Ethyn Beachboard is interning with Upper School Science Teacher Katie D’Souza, assisting with classroom tasks such as making copies, organizing materials, and preparing labs for hands-on learning.
Ridgecroft is proud of the initiative, leadership, and teamwork these interns display each day. We look forward to watching them grow through their experiences this semester and to the contributions they’ll continue to make to our school community.
